Today's Protests!
Protests Against the Israeli Massacre in Gaza are continuing throughout the weekend. Thousands in London, Marseilles, Paris, Mexico City, Barcelona, Cairo, Rome, Los Angeles and Washington D.C. To capture some of the images simply google "yahoo news photos" and enter the words "protest" and "Israel" or "Gaza".
This morning's Honolulu protest was in solidarity with the people of Gaza, and with the millions around the world who are raising their voices to protest the Israeli massacre.
Almost 100 people stood at some of Honolulu's busiest intersections with banners, signs, Palestinian and World flags: about 50 at the Star Market intersection and more than 20 at Ala Moana and at Kam Shopping Center. Honks and signs in support far outnumbered the opposition, but the majority of people registered little response, and many seemed puzzled. Many we had an opportunity to speak with were completely ignorant about what is happening in Gaza (and some said they had never heard the word!). We have a lot of work to do in order to counter the ignorance!

Israel has just announced that it is going to escalate ground operations. They are warning civilians to evacuate but have closed the border - preventing them from seeking safety. Ambulances are unable to get to hospitals. And it is getting worse daily. (See today's article in NYTimes: NYT).
Do everything you can to stop the carnage! Write letters to the editors. Talk with your friends. Sign petitions. Put signs up in your yards. If you attend a church, mosque, temple or synagogue, demand that your church take a position against Israeli's massacre in Gaza. University classes begin on Monday. Speak out in classes. Wear a button or simply scrawl a message on your T-shirt. Spread support for the people of Gaza through the Internet.
