My understanding is that nay lunar month, varies in days from 29 to 31. So, Ramadan would be 29 or 30 days. In Egypt, they will celeberate it on tuesday. This will make it 31 days.

Tomorrow in Hilo, Big Island there are celeberation for the Eid. So I am not sure if I sould go and break my fast to celeberate Eid?

Is it for policitcal reasons, or is becuase the new moon would not be seen tonight?

Please, help me understand this.

Sister Khadija:

As-Salaam-u-Alaikum WRWB. My name is Syed Kamal and I am located in Kona, HI. I am part of the Shura Board of Masjid Al-Baqi of Hawaii (MAHI) for the Big Island.

To clarify this matter regarding Eid Salat in Hilo; there is no Eid prayer in Hilo tomorrow, (Sunday, October 22nd) but rather a South Asian gathering commemorating the significance of Ramadan and that of Eid.

Eid prayer is strictly by the sighting of the moon and we leave this for the Ulamah to decide and/or the person who has physically witnessed the moon sighting. Eid is expected to be on Monday, October 23rd or Tuesday, October 24th, as Br. Rashid has stated on the iio.org website.

The event is specifically for "Big Islanders of South Asian Organization" (BISAO). This organization is cultural-based and encompasses persons from not only the sub-continent of India but Indonesia, Sri Lanka as well as others. If you are interested in attending, please contact me so that I may send you a flyer.

Unfortunately, we don't have the logistic capability yet to have Eid prayers or regular Jumaah salaat yet on the Big Island. I am working very hard to accomplish this task of having at least a prayer hall arrangement for the next Eid. My goal is to have a Masjid established and a regular Imam with us by next Ramadan, inshAllah. The problem I am facing is the lack of attendees for Jumaah salaat and the large distances associated with us located on the Big Island. But inshAllah, we will get past this stage.

For now, I am having Jumaah salaat at my home in Kona at 12:30pm every Friday and a weekly bayaan (via phone) is given by Imam Ibrahim Dremali from Des Moines, Iowa and Br. Mikaeel Abdur-Rahmen from New York. May Allah bless them both for their efforts.

In the meantime, if you know of other Muslim males who live in the area and are interested in fulfilling their weekly Jumaah obligation, please have them contact me.

If you need to contact me, you may at (808) 329-8656 or via email at majikkam@yahoo.com at any time. I wish you and your family a Blessed Eid Mubarak and may Allah accept our fasting and sacrifices during this most auspicious of holy months.

I hope I have clarified this matter.

JazakAllah Khairan & Wasalaam-u-alaikum WRWB.

Respectfully,
Syed Kamal Majid

As-Salaam-u-Alaikum WRWB. Thank you for calrifying this and yes, the gatherings is the Asian one celeberating both the Hinud day of light and Eid.

I did not know that there was a mosque in Kona. As you are aware that distance is long between Kona and Hilo. As for male Moslem, I only know of one. Actually he is legally my husband but we are going through a divorce. I can tell him about your infomration.
